Two Maryland men are facing animal cruelty charges after the charred remains of several domestic dogs were found on a property in Cumberland.
On March 15, the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office arrested 18-year-old Justin Uzonna Anabaraoye and 19-year-old Paul Thomas Baylor III and charged them with multiple counts of animal cruelty.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were contacted on March 12 for a report of animal cruelty.
Deputies were shown a photo of what appeared to be the charred carcass of a pet dog, and an investigation began.

As part of the investigation, detectives executed a search warrant on March 15 at a property in the 13000 block of Tulip Street in Cumberland, Maryland.
Investigators were searching a wooded area of the property when they discovered the charred remains of seven dogs in what appeared to be burnt areas, the sheriff’s office said.
Skeletal remains of numerous other dogs were also discovered during a search of the property.

Deputies, with assistance from the State Fire Marshal’s Office, sent a K9 team to the scene. A dog search showed signs that the suspects used some type of accelerant to start the fire.
The sheriff’s office turned over the dog’s body to the Humane Society of the United States to investigate and determine how the dog died.
Still, Mr. Baylor has been charged with four counts of animal cruelty, and Annabaraoye has been charged with six counts, plus one count of aggravated animal cruelty.

Both men were remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center and held pending bond review.
