One of Augusta National The best tradition is the Champion’s Dinnerheld annually on the Tuesday night of Masters Week.
Only players wearing green jackets will be invited to participate, with the defending champions having the honor of selecting the menu.
So Jon Rahm, a native of the Basque region of northern Spain, has submitted his menu for this year’s dinner, and it’s sure to not disappoint.
The Masters Champion begins by enjoying tapas and pinchos, or appetizers. The menu lists six options for appetizers, all of which look delicious.
And the first course was ensalada de xingolo, a Basque crab salad. Due to its proximity to the Bay of Biscay and the Atlantic Ocean, seafood has long been an essential feature of Basque cuisine.
Then comes the main course, with participants choosing bass cribeye or turbot, a highly prized fish in Europe. Cranebots are found on shallow sandy beaches in Europe and are shaped like large discs. The world’s most popular type of flounder, it can grow up to 40 inches long.
For the lamb dinner, white asparagus is served with turbot, while tudela lettuce and piquillo peppers are served as garnishes for the ribeye.
Both options look delicious.
Finally, Milhojas crema y nata, made with layers of vanilla pastry, is served as dessert.
All in all, it seems like a 5 star meal that exceeded expectations.
But as part of the dinner, the defending champion had the honor of sharing a few words about his experience as Masters champion and what it means to him.
Two years ago, Hideki Matsuyama moved the audience to tears with his speech. Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson have also made adorable comments in the past.
A year ago, Rahm had not yet joined LIV Golf. He played alongside Brooks Koepka in the final round at Augusta National, a PGA Tour vs. LIV match at golf’s most sacred venue.
However, with Rahm joining Koepka in December, both players are now playing on the Saudi-backed circuit. Certainly, his comments at this year’s banquet will be interesting, but knowing Rahm’s respect and admiration for the game and love of history, he probably won’t make anything controversial or unpopular. I wouldn’t say it in a natural way.
However, only those who attended know that for sure. And to participate there, you must first earn the Green Jacket.
