If the NCAA Tournament selection committee was hoping to overcome criticism of who was and wasn’t in this year’s tournament, Virginia did little to help that cause. And there were more than a few ready to throw their shade.

The selection committee came under fire because Big East teams like St. John’s, Providence and Seton Hall did not play in the tournament, while teams like Virginia did.

Well, things seemed to get even worse when Virginia scored 14 points in the first half against Colorado State in the First Four, and nearly an hour passed before scoring the next basket in a 67-42 rout. I saw.

Colorado State will play Texas in the Midwest Region on Thursday at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Big East basketball fans had some feelings about this, with Villanova graduate and Knicks star Josh Hart also commenting.

“They really picked this Virginia team over a Big East team.” Hart wrote, He helped the Wildcats win a national championship in 2016.

Danis Jenkins, a St. John’s shooting guard, allegedly exchanged opinions about X over the course of the night in his own posts and reposts of Hart’s statements.

“It’s really crazy!!!!!” Jenkins wroteadding two clapping hands and face emojis.

The elimination of so many Big East teams angered many basketball fans, but commissioner Charles McClelland’s reasoning for excluding several teams only infuriated fans even more.

“When you start talking about St. John’s, they were 4-10 in Quad 1,” McClelland explained on Sunday’s Mad Dog Radio. “They gave up seven chances against the top three teams in the Big East, but went 1-6 with only a home win over Creighton and no notable non-conference wins.”

The final four teams this year were Virginia, Colorado State, Boise State, and Colorado State.

Seton Hall was one of the first four teams eliminated.

St. John’s was playing in the tournament for the first time since 2019 and hoping to get its first win since 2000, but instead it was on the outside looking in.
