Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has warned that immigrants fleeing horrific violence in gang-ruled Haiti will join those being deported to Democratic strongholds like Martha’s Vineyard.
“We have a transportation program… that’s going to be operational,” DeSantis said. Speaking to podcaster Dana Roesch On Tuesday, a mass busload of migrants from border states occurred.
“The Haitians will land in the Florida Keys, and their next destination will probably be Martha’s Vineyard.”
The Sunshine State is just about 1,340 miles from Haiti, where armed groups have taken control following Prime Minister Ariel Henry’s resignation.
Some 1.4 million Haitians are currently at risk of starvation, and more than 15,000 are homeless, aid groups say.
DeSantis has sent dozens of officers and soldiers, along with helicopters, drones and boats, to monitor the South Florida waterways for ships arriving from the country. Politico reported.
Their efforts apparently worked, with DeSantis claiming the state Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission had seized a boat carrying 25 Haitian refugees, including five children.
Mr. DeSantis told Mr. Loesch that he also transported firearms, night vision goggles and drugs off the coast of Florida.
“Look, Dana, I have to protect my state,” he said. “We have enough problems just dealing with people moving to Florida from blue states.”
