New York City Mayor Adams (D) issued a warning that the city has begun the next phase of enforcement efforts to collect delinquent water bills from residents and commercial establishments.
Mayor Adams announced at a press conference that the New York City Department of Environmental Protection is ramping up collection efforts on 2,400 chronically delinquent water service accounts. Fees on these accounts reportedly totaled $102 million.
DEP plans to send “water outage notices” to commercial facilities, hotels, office buildings, retail spaces, and even households that do not respond to relief efforts.
“We gave these delinquent customers the chance to clear their water debts and save millions of dollars in interest through our Water Amnesty Program, and more than 100,000 responded to our reasonable offer. A small number of our customers mistakenly thought they could do it.”Get away with embarrassing your fellow New Yorkers with no liability whatsoever,” Adams said, according to the source. That’s what it means. press release. “We have no intention of allowing large-scale commercial facilities.” [to] The rest of us are left with water bills. ”
“While we aim to work with these customers one last time, we will not turn a blind eye while landlords and property owners ignore their obligations to their neighbors and the city,” Mayor added.
The announcement regarding water services comes as the city continues to grapple with a system overburdened by violent crime and illegal immigration.
Despite lack of shelter, migrants rejected the city’s offer Free transportation to other locations. It is reported that only 2% of those offered plane or bus tickets choose to emigrate.
“New Yorkers don’t have to pay their hotel water bill. If they owe the city money, they need to pay it,” says a popular independent reporter. Oren Levy he told Blaze News.
“At the same time, we have to have a ‘New Yorkers first’ attitude. We don’t have to pay for illegal immigration. Some people are taking advantage of this system,” he added.
Remarkably, Mayor Adams proposed that the city change its sanctuary city status so that it could deport illegal immigrants who have committed felonies or violent crimes.
But Levy, who reports from City Hall almost daily, said Adams is often stonewalled by city council members, especially when it comes to changing sanctuary city status.
“Council members say that’s not going to happen. A lot of people think the mayor has the power to do whatever he wants, but he doesn’t have that,” Levy added. Ta. “The city is out of control.”
Law enforcement issues continue to emerge, including attacks on NYPD officers.
Twin teenage sisters were recently stabbed outside a Brooklyn mall after refusing a man’s advances. One of the twins succumbed to his injuries, the latest incident of violent crime in the city.
Meanwhile, the NYPD came under fire for promoting its own dance team just a few weeks ago.
If the City cannot resolve the outstanding water bill within 15 days, it will begin shutting off water service. Account holders also have the option of entering into a payment agreement.
If water service is interrupted, affected customers will be required to pay a $1,000 restoration fee in addition to paying any arrears.
