Republican Representatives Thomas Massie (Kentucky) and Chip Roy (Texas), who opposed the bill regarding the popular social media app TikTok, appeared on “”.glen tv” to discuss their views.
An overwhelming bipartisan vote of 352 to 65 Vote Last week, the House of Representatives passed the following bill: measurement This would lead to a ban on TikTok in the US unless the terms of the sale are met. The law is called the “Protecting Americans from Applications Controlled by Foreign Adversaries Act,” and it is not strictly limited to TikTok, which is considered an “application controlled by a foreign adversary.” could be used to target companies that are The bill must pass the Senate before being sent to the president.
While Massie and Roy often align ideologically, including when they endorsed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for president in the 2024 Republican presidential primary, they disagree on this bill.
Massey voted against the bill, while Roy voted for it.
BlazeTV host Glenn Beck started the discussion by playfully asking, “Neither of you have ever taken money from ByteDance, TikTok, or Hunter Biden, right?”
Massey said he received funding from TikTok’s U.S. investor, but said he had not spoken to that person about the move. Roy said he knows who Massey is referring to, but he doesn’t know if he received money from that person.
Roy said there was a “concerted effort by the Chinese Communist Party to use this tool to undermine national security” by providing “misinformation” to the public.
Massey said that according to the Supreme Court, Americans have a right to access foreign propaganda.
Beck quipped that if it weren’t for that, not only “ABC, NBC, CBS” but also “CNN wouldn’t be on the air.”
Massey later suggested that the action might not have needed to be this long if it was going after TikTok alone. He is “concerned about the discretionary power being given to the president,” he said.
