Florida police handcuffed a Latin pop singer during a violent traffic stop on suspicion of possessing a fake diplomatic license plate.
The arrest happened last Tuesday in Sunny Isles Beach, and the video of the traffic stop has since gone viral on social media, garnering more than 87,000 views as of this writing.according to NBC6 FloridaThe woman was later identified as Cecilia Mercado, 32, a singer who goes by the name Sessi and has over 195,000 followers on Instagram.
The video did not show how the stop started, but police later said they stopped Sessi after he took a wrong turn. During questioning, the passenger who filmed the interaction told police that he felt “threatened”.
“Please bring your boss right now. You’re reaching into our car. I feel threatened. You’re reaching into our car. I feel threatened.” I feel threatened, I feel threatened!” the man shouted.
“Get away from her now, get away from her now… let her go, let her go now!” the man added.
“It’s okay,” Sessi told the man.
“They have no jurisdiction over you,” the man replied. “They have no jurisdiction because she is not a U.S. citizen.”
When officers pulled him from the car, he fell to the ground.
“You will be fired from your job and she will receive $250,000,” the passenger shouted. “See you in court, see you in court. Hey, if you want to play, let’s meet in court.”
Police then handcuffed her.
“All you had to do was comply,” the police officer told her.
“I did, I gave them my passport,” she replied.
“No, you’re not. It wasn’t a driver’s license,” the officer retorted.

Sunny Isles police later said in a statement that Ceci was in possession of fake diplomatic plates and claimed to be “immune.”
“The video posted online does not fully capture the incident from start to finish,” the statement said. “The female driver seen in the video was stopped by a police officer for a traffic violation. Afterward, she stated that she was ‘immune.’ She repeatedly refused to comply with the officers’ commands and was placed in handcuffs. ”
The statement said that after an investigation, the diplomatic tag affixed to the car was “found to be a fake, and the female driver was arrested for driving with a fake tag.”
The plates reportedly had the words “diplomat” and “grand ambassador” engraved on them. According to NBC6:
Mercado told officers the vehicle was registered with the U.S. Department of State, but police contacted State Department officials who confirmed it did not have a valid diplomatic tag, the report said.
Mercado was booked into jail on a false license plate charge and held on $2,500 bond, records show. Attorney information was not available.
Sessi later claimed on Instagram Live that the plates were genuine.
“My tag is there,” she said, holding the document up to the camera. “This is registered with the U.S. Department of State. Look, it’s DOT.”
