When you need fast food in a hurry.
Thanks to a bold new partnership between DoorDash and Alphabet’s Wings, Wendy’s customers across the U.S. may soon be able to receive their orders by drone, the food delivery company announced.
In a pilot program conducted Thursday in Christiansburg, Virginia, DoorDash said in a press release that drones will drop burgers, fries and Frosties “within 30 minutes.”
DoorDash is partnering with Wing’s drones in a pilot program to deliver Wendy’s products in Virginia.
“Select local consumers will be able to order eligible menu items from Wendy’s, the pilot’s first restaurant partner, through the DoorDash Marketplace and have them delivered by drone,” a DoorDash spokesperson said in a statement. ” he said.
The winged drone will reportedly fly “target products” including Baconators, Frosties, and even chili at 105 miles per hour, before gently dropping them onto customers’ front lawns.
If you order too much, your meal will be delivered by a company of autonomous delivery droids.
Customers simply select the Drone Delivery tab and place their Wendy’s order. The meals are then prepared, packaged, and delivered by Wing drone. For free.
All homes within a four-mile radius of the Wendy’s at 2355 N. Franklin Street are eligible for service, as long as they have a lawn or other landing pad.
DoorDash plans to expand its service to other U.S. cities by the end of the year.
“As we work to provide consumers with more efficient, sustainable and convenient delivery options, we are optimistic about the value that drone delivery will bring to our platform,” said Harrison See, Senior Director at DoorDash Labs. ” he said.
DoorDash became the first company in Australia to partner with Alphabet’s drone delivery system Wings in 2022.
Currently, we are accepting deliveries from over 60 retailers.
Wing already delivers products from 36 Walmart stores in seven states, including an expansion to Dallas, Texas, last August.
Amazon is also offering drone delivery from pharmacies to residents of College Station, Texas.
