The 2024 Men’s NCAA Tournament is underway, and it only took a few hours for March fever to take hold. 1 strong team, 6th seed BYUhas already lost to No. 11 seed Duquesne. There’s probably a lot more where it came from.
9th place elsewhere in the men’s tournament michigan They defeated No. 8 Mississippi State 69-51. Tom Izzo’s team started in the top five in preseason voting, but a shaky season put them on the bubble heading into Sunday’s selection. This game, of course, may have been the best game the Spartans have had all year, and should set up a showdown with top-seeded North Carolina in the Round of 32 on Saturday.
Duquesne’s win marks the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1969. The Dukes hadn’t even played in March Madness since 1977. Duquesne coach Keith Dambro coached LeBron James in high school at St. Vincent and Saint Louis University. Marys will retire after this season. Duquesne finished sixth in the Atlantic-10, but had a Cinderella run in the conference tournament, earning a surprise bid to March Madness. Their stories just keep getting better.
