Leicester issue legal proceedings against Premier League and EFL | Leicester City

A defiant Leicester City expressed regret at the actions of the Premier League and the English Football League and launched legal action against both organizations. Leicester face the double whammy of having points withheld from both leagues due to allegations of financial fraud.

Leicester, who were relegated from the top flight last season, have been handed a transfer ban by the EFL for allegedly exceeding loss limits in profitability and sustainability calculations relating to the 2023-24 season.

Leicester said it was contesting “the EFL’s right to impose this restrictive and premature restriction”. The 2023-24 fiscal year ends on June 30th. If the club doesn’t make millions in sales by then, it risks points being deducted from the EFL.

On Thursday, the Premier League accused Leicester of breaching the Profitability and Sustainability Regulations (PSR) in the division over the past three years. Top-flight clubs will be allowed to lose up to £105m over a three-year cycle. It is believed that any penalties imposed in this connection will apply from next season, with the EFL potentially imposing penalties if the club is not promoted.

Leicester’s statement reads as follows: “LCFC has today been forced to bring two emergency legal proceedings against the Premier League and the EFL. LCFC confirms that each of these proceedings will be decided by an appropriate and fully independent legal committee. I’m looking for.

“The Club is committed to ensuring that all charges brought against the Club are decided in a timely, appropriate and proportionate manner by the appropriate authorities, in accordance with applicable regulations.

“LCFC would like its procedures to be made public in order to inform supporters and the wider world about the important football governance issues that will be considered, but the relevant regulations require that these procedures take place in secret. LCFC will therefore not do any such thing.” At this stage we can comment further on them.

“We reaffirm the club’s position that Leicester City and all clubs will continue to fight for the right to pursue their ambitions. In particular, we reaffirm our club’s position that Leicester City and all clubs will continue to fight for the right to pursue their ambitions. In particular, we ensure that ambitions are established reasonably and fairly through sustained sporting results. In some cases, it is.”
