“People love to hate shooters,” McDonald added.

“I like it. Generations are watching it together, grandfathers and grandchildren. It’s crazy.”

McDonald’s character is a top professional golf player who aims to conquer the sports world. But he feels his top ranking is threatened by Happy Gilmore, a goofy, big-hitting, hockey-loving young man played by Adam Sandler.

Unfortunately for McGavin, Gilmore does not have a strong love or admiration for golf and treats it like a hobby despite his success. Additionally, Gilmore’s wild behavior on the course made him one of the most popular players on tour, all of which further angered McGavin.

The relationship between these two characters is both adversarial and hilarious, and should the sequel be released in theaters, it’s sure to make golf fans laugh even more.

“The best way to play a villain like Shooter McGavin is to reinvigorate the protagonist in a smart way,” McDonald further explained.

“That’s what the bad guy is for. It’s written that way, so I know it’s going to end up being that way, but it’s really fun to play something like that. It was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed it. We were improvising back and forth. It was fun.”
