NRA Endorses Patrick Morrisey’s West Virginia Gubernatorial Bid

The National Rifle Association (NRA) and the West Virginia Civil Defense League (CDL) on Friday endorsed Attorney General Patrick Morrissey’s candidacy for governor.

Randy Kozucci, Executive Director of the National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) Said In a statement Friday, it said:

On behalf of NRA members in West Virginia, I am pleased to announce NRA-PVF’s “A+” rating and support for the 2024 West Virginia primary. This endorsement reflects your steadfast support and demonstrated leadership on Second Amendment issues during your time as West Virginia Attorney General. As Attorney General, you have a long history of being on the front lines for legal gun owners. Your leadership in firearms rights litigation has been noted and appreciated. You’ll review more than 20 firearms rights-related cases, including his signature on NYSRPA v. Bruen, the monumental decision that forever changed the way courts review Second Amendment rights. I’ve been doing it. To make sure you were there to secure our organization’s First Amendment rights in NRA v. Vullo. As Attorney General, you dramatically increased reciprocity in West Virginia, fought to protect pistol equipment, and rightly opposed the nomination of an unqualified ATF director. It is easy to say that you have sufficiently proven your position. Our members interpret your “A+” rating and endorsement as a solid pro-gun/pro-hunting candidate who is a staunch defender of the right to keep and bear arms. [Emphasis added]

Ian T. Masters, president of the West Virginia Civil Defense League (WVCDL), said in a statement:

As a result of his passionate support of the right to keep and bear arms during his tenure as West Virginia Attorney General, the WVCDL Board of Directors is pleased to announce a rare early primary endorsement of Patrick Morrissey in the Republican primary. . For the governor. The West Virginia Civil Defense League is the most successful all-volunteer, nonpartisan organization dedicated to preserving, expanding, and perpetuating the right to keep and bear arms in West Virginia. We have found Patrick Morrissey to be a dedicated and active ally of West Virginians and their most important rights. For more than a decade, WVCDL has watched Patrick Morrissey serve alongside us in the West Virginia State Legislature. We have also seen him defend the right to keep and bear arms within the court system. When it comes to the Republican gubernatorial primary, there is no candidate like Patrick Morrissey, so we are proud to give him this endorsement. [Emphasis added]

In a statement, Morrissey said West Virginia will continue to protect Second Amendment rights.

I am honored to receive support for my gubernatorial candidacy from two of the most important gun rights organizations in and around the state. As Attorney General, I have always been a strong and fearless advocate for the Second Amendment, including playing a critical role in enforcing the Constitution in West Virginia. I am the only candidate with a track record of defending constitutional rights and winning. As Governor of West Virginia, I will ensure that West Virginians have their Second Amendment rights expanded, defended, and protected from any potential overreach, especially by gun-grabbing far-left forces. As governor, I look forward to continuing my work defending our God-given constitutional rights. [Emphasis added]

Morrissey’s campaign also launched the following ad as part of a six-figure campaign to discuss how to tackle the Mountain State’s fentanyl problem.

The Club for Growth Action has launched an ad attacking West Virginia candidate Chris Miller.
