Breaking down the best March Madness 2024 matchups on Saturday

Here are the key March Madness 2024 games to watch on Saturday:

(7) Dayton vs. (2) Arizona

12:45 p.m., CBS

It was a tough tournament for the Atlantic 10, with two teams advancing to the second round for the first time since 2016.

Dayton overcame a 17-point deficit to defeat Nevada, but will need to do better to have a chance to face powerhouse Arizona, which defeated Long Beach State.

(5) Gonzaga vs. (4) Kansas

3:15 p.m., CBS

This showdown between two of the winningest active coaches, Bill Self (810 wins) and Mark Few (715 wins), is a must-see.

This wasn’t the good old Gonzaga team that finished second in the West Coast Conference, but the Zags defeated trendy upset favorite McNeese in the first round. Meanwhile, Kansas needed the help of a generous foul call in the closing minutes to avoid giving up a big lead against Sanford.

(9) Michigan Street vs. (1) North Carolina

5:30 p.m., CBS

Two of the few programs to win multiple national titles, the Spartans and Tar Heels feel like an Elite Eight or Final Four matchup most seasons.

Las Vegas appears to agree, with North Carolina being the narrow favorite to win despite the disparity in seeding after Michigan State fell short during the regular season.

(14) Oakland vs. (11) North Carolina State University

7:10pm, TBS

This is a heavyweight matchup, but it’s not what anyone expected.

Oakland University defeated No. 3 seed Kentucky on an incredible 10 3-pointers from graduate transfer Jack Goelke, while North Carolina State and 275-pound cult hero DJ Burns Jr. continued their late-season rise by defeating Texas Tech. Both teams will be fun additions for the second weekend.

(11) Duquesne vs. (3) Illinois

8:40 p.m., TNT

After upsetting BYU to win the school’s first NCAA Tournament championship since 1969, Duquesne will have another chance to extend the career of coach Keith Dambro, who will step down after the season.

But Illinois’ Terrence Shannon Jr. has been off, scoring at least 25 points in five straight games, including 26 points against Morehead State on Thursday.

(11) Oregon vs. (3) Creighton

9:40pm, TBS

On Thursday, Oregon State’s Jermaine Quiznard couldn’t stop his former team against South Carolina, dropping a tournament-high 40 points.

But Creighton has a three-headed monster in Ryan Kalkbrenner, Trey Alexander and Baylor Shireman who each averaged over 17 points in the regular season.

They aim to become the first Big East team to advance to the Sweet 16 this year.
