This is truly March Madness!
Minnesota Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan posted potential candidates for the NCAA Division I men’s and women’s basketball tournaments on social media, letting everyone know she chose the winners based on which states provide legal abortion. I did.
“I filled in brackets based on whether those schools are in states that protect access to abortion care,” the Democrat said. Posted on X Thursday. “Minnesota was the favorite by this measurement, so it’s no wonder they missed the tournament.”

She said her team chose a higher seed to play a team from a state that “guarantees access to abortion with few restrictions.”
“I would do the same thing if we were playing a team from a state that banned abortion,” she added.
For those still trying to keep score, she ended up with the top-seeded University of Connecticut Huskies winning in the men’s bracket and the top-seeded USC Trojans winning in the women’s bracket.
The latter decision apparently had nothing to do with USC’s mascot having the same name as a popular condom brand.
As expected, her choice didn’t make much of a splash on social media and garnered a lot of backlash.
“Seeing posts like this makes me so glad I left Minnesota.” I wrote @JdpalmerTN.
“Lord, I just thought nothing could be more embarrassing or grotesque.” Added @Robert_Ryan_81. “I hope you enjoy roasting.”
