Transgender Teen Sentenced After Fatally Shooting 12-Year-Old Girl

The now 18-year-old boy who shot and killed a 12-year-old girl could be sentenced to 15 to 40 years in prison.

Ash Cooper, who was previously known as Joshua Cooper at the time of the incident, pleaded guilty to third-degree murder, possession of instruments of crime and tampering with evidence in the killing of Morgan Connors.

November 25thIn 2022, Van Slam Police received a 9-1-1 call about a possible murder at Top of the Ridge Trailer Park.

The caller said Cooper claimed he had just killed someone and had been communicating with a teenage witness via Instagram video chat.

During the call, Cooper turned on his camera to show parts of the victim’s body, then asked the boy for help cleaning up the crime scene and disposing of the body.

When police later arrived at the Gibson Road property, Cooper was seen jumping out of the back of the trailer.

When officers entered the trailer, they found Connors, who appeared to have been fatally shot.

There was also evidence that steps were taken to try to clean up the crime scene.

Cooper, who was 16 at the time, was found nearby and taken into custody.

Investigators later discovered that the boy had taken the gun from his father’s gun safe.

Cooper was sentenced to 15 to 40 years in prison, followed by seven years of probation.

In addition, Cooper, now 18, was required to follow all adult probation and parole guidelines and recommendations, in addition to undergoing mental health and psychological testing.
