A 12-year-old boy has been charged in connection with a fatal stabbing in Texas that left a woman hospitalized in critical condition, authorities said.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said on social media that the boy, whose identity has not been released because of his age, was charged with aggravated assault.
The charges come after a 59-year-old woman was found with stab wounds at a residence on April Valley Court in Harris County just after 2 p.m. Saturday.
She was then taken to the hospital by life-saving flight in critical condition.

Two boys, ages 12 and 7, are suspected of being involved in Saturday’s stabbing. Authorities said both brothers fled the scene but were found later that day.
The mother told KPRC-TV: “I’m sorry to the family. I’m very sorry for what happened to my sons. And I wish you good health and well-being.”

Gonzalez said the 12-year-old boy was charged with the stabbing, but the 7-year-old boy was not legally guilty.
Her mother said, “I don’t want that to happen to anyone, so I regret it very much.” She added: “I must continue to pray for both my family and theirs.”
The sheriff says Child Protective Services has been contacted.

The sheriff’s office previously said they believe the boys returned to the April Valley Court home after a verbal confrontation with the woman.
“From the information I gather, it was just an altercation,” Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sergio Torres told KPRC-TV on Saturday. “The woman appeared to have several stab wounds to her abdomen.”

Neighbors said the woman’s brother eventually found her inside the home.
“Her brother came over just to check on her and see how she was doing. He checks on her every day. At that point, at just the right time, her brother came over and checked on her. , opened the door and saw her stabbed,” Torres said, ABC13 reported.
This incident is still under investigation.
