The incident occurred Sunday around 7:25 p.m. after the girl’s adoptive parents called authorities to their home and said the girl was suffering from a mental health crisis. By the time her deputy arrived, the girl was gone. About 15 minutes later, she showed up at the Industrial Sheriff’s Station, about a mile from her home, knocked on her lobby door, went inside and “rushed” to retrieve the sheriff’s deputy’s firearm from its holster. announced the ministry.

The department did not provide footage of the incident or specific information about whether the girl fired the gun intentionally or accidentally. A struggle ensued and “during the struggle, the boy sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” according to the press release.
The girl was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name and her age were not released. Detectives are investigating the shooting.

No deputies were injured during the altercation. Industry City is approximately 32 miles east of downtown Los Angeles.
