MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Top-ranked Iga Swiatek and U.S. Open champion Coco Gauff were eliminated at the Miami Open.
Swiatek defeated Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-4 on Monday night, hours after third-seeded Gauff lost in three sets to No. 23 Caroline Garcia 6-3, 1-6, 6-2. They lost 6-2.
In the men’s draw, top seed Carlos Alcaraz defeated Gael Monfils 6-4, 6-2 to advance to the round of 16.
Alexandrova defeated a top-ranked fighter for the first time, advancing to face Jessica Pegula, who defeated Emma Navarro 7-6 (1), 6-3, in the quarterfinals.
Alexandrova recorded her second win against Swiatek, following her win in Melbourne in 2021. Since then, Swiatek had won three matches.
