A live stream from the bridge showed the cargo ship colliding with a support beam, causing the bridge to collapse and fall into the Patapsco River. Officials said several people were missing and multiple vehicles were on the bridge at the time of the collapse.

The water under the bridge was about 50 feet deep and the water temperature at the time of the pre-dawn collapse was about 47 degrees.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) confirmed that the cargo ship that collided with the bridge was the Singapore-flagged 95,000 gross tonne container ship Dali. There were 22 crew members on board the ship at the time of the incident.

The large ship appears to have caught fire before being disabled. Footage of the incident showed the ship’s lights going out multiple times before the collision, suggesting the collision may have been caused by a power outage.
