A convicted murderer who served more than 20 years in prison for stabbing a man inside a Brooklyn subway station was arrested again this week, authorities said.
Police said Kevin Stenbridge, 52, who served more than 25 years in prison for a 1990 Queens murder, killed another 52-year-old at the Kosciuszko Street J station around 4:30 a.m. Monday. He is accused of stabbing a man in the back multiple times with a knife. and court records.
The victim, who got into an argument with Stenbridge over smoking on the train, was taken to Kings County Hospital Center where he was listed in stable condition.
It is unclear who exactly was smoking, sparking an outburst of violence.
Police said Stenbridge, who lives in eastern New York, attempted to take off after the attack, but was arrested on the street outside the transit network.
He was charged Tuesday with assault, menacing and weapons possession, according to a criminal complaint against him.
Prosecutors asked him to be held on $75,000 cash or $150,000 bail, but a Brooklyn Criminal Court judge set bail at $7,500 cash or $35,000 bail, the District Attorney’s Office said. announced.
Stenbridge faced a maximum sentence of life in prison in connection with the 1992 Queens murder, according to the Queens Prosecutor’s Office.
