Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.), chairman of the House Oversight Committee, sent a letter to Department of Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm on Wednesday inviting her to testify at a scheduled oversight hearing.
The Daily Caller first reported that Comer asked Granholm to appear at a May 15 hearing to discuss a number of issues, including why the DOE withheld information from the agency’s oversight committee. I obtained a copy of the letter asking the group to testify. These include the misuse of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, the Department of Energy’s suspension of liquefied natural gas exports, Granholm’s taxpayer-funded electric vehicle trips in the summer of 2023, and increased spending levels.
In his letter, Comer also notes that the DOE has refused to allow Granholm to attend other dates, saying he will only allow the deputy director to testify. (Related: Energy Secretary travels to promote green technology; police intervene when EV chargers run out)
“In the 118th Congress, the Oversight Committee exposed the Biden administration’s radical environmental policies and unchecked regulations that are jeopardizing economic opportunity, raising energy costs for Americans, and hurting small businesses. Over the past several months, the Committee has worked in good faith with the Department of Energy to finalize a future date for Secretary Granholm to testify at the hearing, but the “The Secretary continues to indicate that he is unable to attend scheduled hearings,” Comer told the caller before sending the letter.

“The American people have a right to hear directly from Secretary Granholm, and any attempt to subvert meaningful Congressional oversight cannot be tolerated. DOE must avoid further delays in its schedule, and the May 15 I look forward to Director Granholm’s testimony.” (Related: Jennifer Granholm’s favorite EV is not eligible for the Biden administration’s subsidies because it has parts made in China)
Comer asked for invitations to be accepted by April 3.
