Sahith Segala is aiming for his second PGA Tour win this week at the Texas Children’s Houston Open.
This will be his third start at the Houston Open, and now that he has won the 2023 Fortinet Championship, he is even more excited about the opportunity to win this title.
Originally from California, he moved to Houston and this became his home game.
“It’s always nice when you’re in bed for a week,” Segala said. “It feels like our third home game. It’s our third consecutive home game. I’m excited. It’s spring in Houston, so I’m really happy that the schedule is the way it is.”
There are big changes to this event in 2024. The tournament will no longer be held in his November and will be held ahead of the Valero Open, giving Texas back-to-back events before its first major championship at Augusta National.

“I think it makes a lot of sense given the Florida swing last minute,” he said. “I’m already feeling more subdued in some ways. I woke up this morning and my girlfriend made me breakfast. I did my morning coffee routine and drove here. This week… These little things make me feel wonderful. I’m really looking forward to the future.” I’m sure my friends and family will be going out a lot, so I’m looking forward to that as well. ”
The 26-year-old’s best result was last year when he finished T22. He shot a 64 on Sunday and called it one of the best rounds in professional golf.
“I think I started the round in 60th place, shot 6 under, and before I knew it I was 4 under and 22nd. It’s a tough course, and I know my corresponding score isn’t extremely low.” Segala said.
Memorial Golf Course is a challenging course for these players, but Segala loves it. His favorite type of golf is played on these difficult courses.
“I don’t know if my grades are necessarily better on hard golf courses, but I feel like I love hard golf courses because par is much more important,” Segala said. “It’s fun to start the week knowing you don’t have to shoot 22 under or 25 under to win the tournament. If you plan around the golf course and hit 2 under for every nine, by Sunday We might get there soon.”
Since he’s within driving distance, this could be the week for Segala to earn his second PGA Tour victory. Winning one is hard enough, but winning the second one is even harder.
In 2024, Segala has one runner-up finish, four top-10 finishes and five top-25 finishes in eight starts for the Sentry. His last start was at The Players Championship, where he posted a T9. He had a T6 finish at Bay Hill at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
Will this be the week Theegala does something special?
