The White House announced the theme for its annual Easter Egg Roll on Thursday.
The Easter tradition, held annually on the White House lawn since the late 19th century, is hosted by First Lady Jill Biden and has the theme “EGGucation.”
“First Lady Jill Biden, who has been a teacher for more than 30 years, continued the ‘EGGucation’ theme at the event, transforming the South Lawn and Ellipse into a school community filled with fun and educational activities for children of all ages. ” reads the White House statement.

The Easter Egg Roll will be held on April 1st and is expected to draw tens of thousands of participants from across the United States.
The event will feature a variety of activities for attendees, including an egg roll and Easter egg hunt, as well as a “physical egg raising (PE) zone” and a “field trip to the farm.”
The Schoolhouse Stage on the south lawn will feature children’s entertainment, including “educational acts and performances.”

Bands from the U.S. Air Force, Navy and Army will also perform.
“A total of approximately 40,000 people will participate in this year’s Easter ‘EGGucation’ Roll, including thousands of military and veteran families, caregivers, and survivors,” a White House press release said. “Tickets for the general public were distributed to guests across the country through an online lottery.”

A variety of costumed characters walk the grounds of the White House to interact with children, including SpongeBob SquarePants, Snoopy, Charlie Brown, the Lorax, Minions, Wonder Woman, and multiple Major League Baseball mascots .
The White House Easter Egg Roll was officially established by President Rutherford B. Hayes in 1878, after similar traditions were already popular in other areas of Washington, D.C., and Alexandria, Virginia.
