Arguably the greatest baseball player of his generation hit his first home run of the 2024 season.
Mike Trout hit Corbin Burnes deep for Baltimore in his first at-bat of the year.
Burns threw an 88 mph slider to Trout with the count 1-1, but the three-time MVP made the colossal mistake of throwing a low strike.

Trout, perhaps the best low-ball hitter in the game, blasted a 402-foot offering over the left-center field wall at Camden Yards, just a few feet from a ridiculously deep part of the park.
It was a good start for a Hall of Fame candidate who has had disappointing performances in recent years.
Even when Trout misses time, he always puts up great numbers. In the past three seasons, he played in 36, 119, and 82 games, respectively.
Last year, he hit career lows in nearly every category, slashing .263/.367/.490. This came after hitting just .283 in 2022, his lowest mark in a season not shortened due to the pandemic. Even though he hit 40 home runs.

He hasn’t played more than 140 games since 2016, but in 2019 he played in 134 games and won the MVP award.

Trout is probably aiming for his 400th career home run. He needs 31 more. Giancarlo Stanton became the 58th player to reach this milestone last year. Trout will reach those numbers if he stays healthy.
There’s talk that we’re seeing the decline of the greatest player of all time, who never won a postseason game against the Los Angeles Angels.
