‘Oppenheimer’ director Christopher Nolan and wife Emma Thomas to get British knighthood and damehood

LONDON (AP) – Oscar-winning “Oppenheimer” director Christopher Nolan and his wife, producer Emma Thomas, have been knighted and baronized for their work in the film, according to a statement Thursday from the British government. It was decided to be awarded.

Their recognition comes after the biopic about “father of the atomic bomb” J. Robert Oppenheimer dominated awards season, particularly winning seven Oscars at the Academy Awards earlier this month, including best picture and best director. Ta.

Nolan, 53, previously received nominations for Memento, Inception and Dunkirk.

News of the honor came as a bit of a surprise, as the medal is usually handed out twice a year, once to mark the new year and once on Charles III’s birthday, when he bestows the medal. These may also be awarded after special achievements related to sports or the arts.

The honor is formally bestowed at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace, and is often bestowed in person by the British monarch. However, the King is currently undergoing treatment for cancer and is not performing any royal duties.

Born in London to a British father and American mother, Nolan met his future wife Thomas, 53, while attending University College London. They have his four children and run the production company Syncopy, which has produced many blockbuster hits.

Earlier this year, director Nolan praised his wife’s achievements when he was awarded the British Film Institute Fellowship as “one of the world’s most innovative and influential filmmakers”.

Thomas never felt alone making the film because he “always looked at things the same way I did in terms of the importance of the media,” he said.

Addressing the audience at this year’s Academy Awards, Nolan pointed out that cinema has been around for just over a century.

“Imagine 100 years after the birth of painting and theater,” said director Nolan, who won Best Picture with his wife and producer. “I don’t know where this amazing journey will take us from here, but knowing that you think I play an important role in it means the world to me.”
