The Mets open the 2024 season Friday afternoon against the Brewers, starting a three-game set after Thursday’s rain cancellation.
Jose Quintana will start against New York. He had a mediocre performance after returning from a rib injury midway through the season.
The veteran left-hander started 13 games for the Amazons, posting a 3-6 record with a 4.58 expected ERA, while posting a career-low strikeout rate of 18.8 percent.
The Mets also hit .238 against right-handed pitchers last season, which should bode well for Milwaukee’s Freddy Peralta.
The 27-year-old ace finished 2023 with a strikeout rate of 30.8 percent, which is in the top eight percent of major league pitchers.
Although Peralta hasn’t been as productive as he was the previous two seasons, he’s still a solid presence as he’s just beginning to enter his prime.
In one game against the Mets last year, he had zero earned runs, two hits, and seven strikeouts.
The Brewers’ pitching staff was the main reason for winning the National League Central Division title.
He posted the league’s best ERA of 3.73, had several arms out of the bullpen, and ranked among the top in MLB in batted balls.
