The debate over crime in the Big Apple heated up on Thursday when New York City Mayor Eric Adams was accused of sensationalizing the death of New York City Police Department (NYPD) Officer Jonathan Diller.
During the performance “Breakfast Club,” Commentator Olayemi Orurin clashed with Adams over the response to crime in the city. He called Adams a “fear monger” against crime, took issue with his public comments on bail reform policies, and argued that only a small percentage of those released on bail reoffend.
Things got tense when she mentioned Adams’ reaction to Diller’s murder.
“We want to sensationalize and at the same time highlight and point out how a police officer was killed the other day. This is a rare occurrence in the United States, but certainly not in New York, and at the same time, we want to highlight and point out how a police officer was killed the other day. “There are seven people this year, including a 19-year-old,” she said.

Adams expressed impatience and said he would not ignore the deaths of “innocent men in uniform.”
“But you’re one of the 31 people who died at Rikers,” Orrin replied.
After several exchanges, Adams said she didn’t want to take her out of context and didn’t want people to think she was “disrespecting” the “young man who was shot.”
“Mayor Adams, I can’t do that,” Orlin said.
“Listen, I’m not trying to influence you. I lost a police officer. I went to meet the mother of an 11-month-old baby who was shot in the head for the first time. The mayor and I were sitting with her at the hospital, and just like we go to see mothers who have lost children to gun violence, I go to see them. ” said Adams.
He later said that “a lot of people on the far left” disagreed with him on crime.
You know, a lot of people on the far left say, “Eric, people should be allowed to sleep on the streets no matter what.” They should be allowed to sleep on your front stoop or inject themselves with drugs. They should be allowed to go into stores and steal whatever they want. ”For example, people don’t always agree with me. ”

Former President Donald Trump attended the wake Thursday afternoon.
“It’s a really sad, sad thing. It’s really horrible. And it happens too often, and we’re not going to tolerate it,” Trump said.
“We need law and order,” he added.

This is not the first high-profile attack on NYPD officers in recent months.
In January, two New York City police officers were beaten by several illegal immigrants in Times Square, just a stone’s throw from the New Amsterdam Theater.
The NYPD arrested Darwin Andres Gomez Izquiel, 19, of Mississippi. Kelvin Servato Arroca, 19, of Brooklyn. Juarez Wilson, 21, Queens. Brooklyn residents Yeoman Rebellon, 24, and Joan Boada, 22, were involved in the crime.
All of them were charged with a variety of charges, including assaulting a police officer, gang assault, obstruction of public administration, and disorderly conduct.
