Missouri teen Kaylee Gain out of coma, begins speech therapy after beatdown

A Missouri teen who was left in a coma after her head was mercilessly smashed into the pavement during a twisted after-school brawl is slowly on the road to recovery, but she has no memory of the beating.

Kaylee Gein, 16, was “able to have limited verbal communication” a week after being moved from the intensive care unit, her family announced Friday.

“Kaylee recently started speech therapy, and since she is not yet able to walk on her own, she has been taking several short walks with the help of hospital staff,” Gaines’ attorney Brian Kemmerer said in a statement. “There is,” he said.

“However, Ms. Cayley has no recollection of the altercation that led to her hospitalization.”

Her family initially thought she would never recover from the fight that led to a brain bleed and a fractured skull, but the small steps turned out to be big strides for the teenager.

Chilling footage of the March 8 attack showed the unidentified girl, Gaines, repeatedly slamming her head into concrete, just blocks from Hazelwood East High School in Spanish Lake.

The 15-year-old bully was taken into custody and charged with assault.

The Gaines family also accused her attacker on Friday of sharing a series of social media posts boasting about the violent acts, including a joke that the beatdown would make her “eligible to join MMA or WWE.” was also included.

The alleged post has since been deleted.

“Given that Caylee visibly began convulsing within seconds of the attack, the serious nature of Caylee’s injuries should have been immediately apparent to the defendant,” Kemmerer said, adding that these posts added that it shows a “complete disregard for the well-being of his fellow human beings,” which is further evidence that the defendant is a continuing threat to the community. ”

Gane’s family and Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey are calling for the unnamed girl to be tried as an adult for this heinous crime.

The girl’s family came to the honor student’s defense, claiming she had been “harassed and bullied” before the assault, a detail the Gaines family says does not suggest the girl realized the seriousness of her actions. He said this was further evidence of this.

“If anything, the defendant’s reported level of intelligence suggests that she was fully aware that this type of violence would result in the severe injuries Caylee sustained, and therefore that she “It provides further reason why it is appropriate for him to be tried as an adult,” Kemmerer said.

The full details and motive of the attack are not yet clear.

Gane and another student had been suspended the previous day for a separate altercation that resulted in no injuries, family members said, suggesting the assault may have been retaliation.
