5 wounded at Detroit club in shooting over parking dispute

Five people were injured in a fight over a parking space outside a blues club early Friday morning, Detroit police said.

Assistant Police Chief Charles Fitzgerald told reporters the altercation began around 2:45 a.m. and turned physical when one of the men involved pulled a gun from a vehicle and fired shots into the crowd. He said it became.

“When he came back, like most cowards do, he brought a gun,” Fitzgerald added. “Five people being shot in a parking lot is ridiculous to me.”

The suspect then drove away. Seven or eight shell casings were found in the parking lot. No arrests have been made.

Fitzgerald said it appears only one of the shooting victims was involved in a fight. Others were on the sidelines. All five people, aged between 33 and 49, are in stable condition and hospitalized, he added.

Fitzgerald said police are also investigating why the club was open past 2 a.m., since the club does not have a city long-hours permit.
