In a portion of an interview with FOX News national correspondent Bill Melgin, which aired on Friday’s broadcast of FOX News Channel’s “America’s Newsroom,” a Boston local in charge of removal operations for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said: “We can’t deal with it,” said Todd Lyons, the office’s director. “In Massachusetts, that’s the case in most of these sanctuary jurisdictions,” he said, citing all the threats to public safety due to a lack of resources and the release of child rape suspects without notifying ICE.
“We don’t have enough police officers or resources to deal with all of these public safety threats,” Lyons said. “Do we go after a child rapist today or a twice-deported fentanyl dealer? Because you can’t have it both ways.”
In another part of the report about ICE arresting illegal immigrants for crimes, Melgin asked, “Why aren’t you being told about the release of child rapists?”
“Unfortunately, that’s the case with most of these protected areas in Massachusetts,” Lyons responded.
At the end of the program, Melgin said: “And ICE says all of these arrests you saw happened because local authorities ignored detainees’ requests to keep them in custody due to sanctuary policies. ICE says all of these suspects They will remain in federal custody until local charges are resolved, after which time efforts will be made to deport them all from the country.”
