Bryce Harper is known for his relentless hustle, and that’s exactly what happened Saturday afternoon after a rough play that caused him to flip over in his own dugout.
The Philadelphia Phillies’ first baseman was chasing a foul ball from Atlanta Braves third baseman Austin Riley as it drifted towards the first base dugout.
As Harper approached the camera railing, she bent down to grab it. But instead of grabbing the ball, he ends up falling upside down into the well.

Harper got to his feet safely and stayed in the game as the Phillies crowd at Citizens Bank Park cheered his hard work.
Harper stayed in the game, but the Phillies ended up losing 12-4 to their National League East rival.

Heading into Sunday, Harper was given a day of rest by coach Rob Thomson, but he said it was already scheduled because he “didn’t play much in the spring and is on camera a lot after that.”

“We’re trying to take care of him. He’ll have two days off for the first month,” Thompson said, according to ESPN. “It’s like spring training without the extra 44 guys. And against a left-handed pitcher, you’re going to kick other guys in. We’re just going to protect him.”
The Phillies started Alec Bohm at first base in place of Harper, and he said after Saturday’s game that he “felt pretty good.”
The two-time MVP has been a key cog for the Phillies, who have made back-to-back NLCS appearances, most recently losing to the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2023. The Phillies advanced to the 2022 World Series, but lost the World Series. Houston Astros.

Harper is aiming for his first hit in 2024, but in 2023 he hit .293/.401/.499 with 21 home runs and 72 RBIs in 126 games. He finished 12th in National League MVP voting and won the Silver Slugger Award. .
