How Trans Day of Visibility sparked Easter rising against Biden

Not even Easter could escape the culture wars.

This year, the most sacred Christian holiday on the calendar, the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, coincides with Transgender Visibility Day, which has been observed on March 31 every year since 2009.

As in past years, President Biden, New York Governor Kathy Hochul, and a number of other top Democratic politicians celebrated both Easter and Transgender Day of Visibility in support of transgender people. This drew the ire of Christian conservatives who considered it to be against religion.

“On Transgender Visibility Day, we honor the extraordinary courage and contributions of transgender Americans and our commitment to building a more perfect union in which all people are created equal and treated equally throughout life. We reaffirm our determination.” Biden’s declaration, released Friday, Said.

“Today, we celebrate Transgender Visibility Day, honoring the contributions made by members of the transgender community in New York State and across the nation,” Hochul declared.

“I am proud of the strength that transgender New Yorkers display every day, but I want to make one thing clear: You are always welcome in New York. You are loved. “

Ramaswami was never alone.Dissonance from prominent Republicans – even from former President Donald Trump Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) — Anger built up.

President Trump’s national press secretary, Caroline Leavitt, said: “We are calling out Joe Biden’s failed campaign and the White House to the entire nation who believe tomorrow is for one celebration: the resurrection of Jesus Christ.” We ask the millions of Catholics and Christians in the United States to apologize.”

“I am absolutely disgusted that Joe Biden, who calls himself a devout Catholic, has declared the holiest day to be Transgender Visibility Day,” said Caitlyn Jenner, a prominent transgender conservative. Posted in X.

“The only thing you should proclaim on this day is, “He is risen.”

The White House strongly responded to the criticism, calling it hateful.

“As a Christian who celebrates Easter with my family, President Biden is in a position to unite people and protect the dignity and freedoms of all Americans,” White House Press Secretary Andrew Bates said in a statement Saturday.

“Unfortunately, it is no surprise that politicians seek to divide and weaken our country with cruel, hateful, and dishonest rhetoric. Never abuse your faith.”

Why celebrate Trans Day on Easter?

In contrast to many other religious and secular holidays, Easter is not associated with a specific date. It is intended to follow the Sunday after the full moon of Passover, which comes after the vernal equinox.

Easter typically falls somewhere between March 22nd and April 25th.

And it won’t be until 2086, more than 60 years from now, that these two events will occur simultaneously again.

Meanwhile, Transgender Visibility Day began to take shape in 2009 following lobbying by transgender activist Rachel Crandall, who felt there was insufficient recognition for her community.

Transgender Day of Visibility was preceded by the celebration of Transgender Day of Remembrance, which began in 1999. However, Transgender Remembrance Day was centered around remembering transgender people who have passed away.
