White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre announced Monday that Biden would investigate the Francis Scott Key Bridge, which collapsed on Friday.
During his visit, he will meet with state and local officials. The president also plans to review the federal government’s response efforts.
The bridge collapsed last week when a container ship collided with its supports. Six road workers were killed in the accident.
Jean-Pierre said the Biden administration is already working with local leaders to secure barges and cranes for repairs.
“President Biden and his team are working with Governor (Wes) Moore, the Congressional delegation, Mayor (Brandon) Scott, and numerous state and local officials to reopen ports, rebuild bridges, and support the people of Baltimore. We are working on it,” Jean-Pierre said. .
Jean-Pierre added that the government is working with Congress to ensure the federal government pays for the bridge’s reconstruction.
