The Iowa Hawkeyes won the Elite Eight 94-87, led by Caitlin Clark’s 41 points, advancing to the Final Four and getting revenge on the LSU Tigers.

Iowa State lost to Angell Reese & Co. in the national championship last season, but the top-seeded Hawkeyes missed out on the championship this time. And of course, it was Clark who was most vocal about it.

Clark made 13-of-29 from the field and 9-of-20 from beyond the arc. LSU guard Haley Van Lith put up some serious competition on those shots, especially the deep 3-pointers that Clark specializes in, but could only shrug as she saw them go in. .

But Clark wasn’t just shooting in this game. She contributed 12 assists to her teammates, breaking her NCAA Tournament record with 137 assists.

The turning point in the game came in the third quarter after Fraujay Johnson’s spinning layup put him up to 45 points just before the end of the first half. Johnson led the Tigers in the game with 23 points on 10-of-18 shooting, six rebounds, two assists, three blocks, and one steal.

Iowa started the third quarter on an 8-0 run while LSU struggled to get shots off the ground. By the end, Clark had made four of his nine 3s in the quarter, and Iowa entered the fourth quarter with a solid 11-point lead at 69-58.

Meanwhile, as a team, the Tigers made 5 of 26 shots in the third quarter.

LSU would outscore Iowa 29-25 in the fourth, but despite the effort, it wasn’t enough.

Reese got off to a very good start for LSU, contributing to a 31-26 first quarter victory. She made 6 of 8 from the field, but ultimately injured her ankle on a blocking attempt and was benched in the second quarter.

After eventually returning to the game, Reese went cold as Iowa sent in multiple defenders. She finished 1-of-13 from the field and 7-of-21 for 17 points and a game-high 20 rebounds.

LSU was strong on the glass as a team and outrebounded Iowa 55-37. However, Van Lith scored nine points on 2-of-10 shooting, including 1-of-6 from 3, and freshman Mikayla Williams scored 18 points on 6-of-16 shooting. The rate remained at 38.6%.

Meanwhile, Iowa’s Kate Martin shot 50% from the floor (8 of 16) and scored 21 points. She also added six rebounds and two steals.

Chicago native Sidney Affolter also made 50% of his shots (5 of 10) and scored 16 points, including two 3-pointers.
