Residents of San Francisco, California, are outraged that prostitution has gotten so bad in one area that a bystander was able to record a fight between suspected sex workers in broad daylight.
the woman who took the video spoke with KRON-TV However, he requested anonymity. She said her video came from outside her home on Shotwell Street in the Mission District.
“I looked out the window and saw two women beating another woman. From the way they were dressed, it was obvious that they were prostitutes,” the woman said. .
“I see them grabbing the woman by the hair and throwing her to the ground. They are kicking her,” she added. “At one point, a woman was sitting on top of her. Then she kicked her hard in the head.”
The woman said she went down the mountain to check on the victim.
“Apparently the fight started because she was in the car and the girls were looking inside her car. They then got into an argument and when the woman got out of the car, the women I hit her,” the woman told KRON.
San Francisco police said they found and arrested a 24-year-old man matching the description of the attacker. She was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault.
Witnesses said they were shocked by the brazen nature of the incident.
“There is a sex work problem on Shotwell Street, but I’m not used to seeing such scenes in the daytime so it was a surprise,” she added.
The woman went on to say that prostitution has been a problem in the neighborhood for more than a decade, but police have done little to prevent the problem.
“There’s violence in prostitution, there’s conflict. There are prostitutes fighting over girls,” she said. “John throws girls out of cars. We’ve been working on this problem for 10 years and the police say they’re understaffed. It’s not a priority for us.”

Residents in the area have started a petition calling for license plate readers to help police catch prostitutes, prostitutes and customers looking for prostitutes.
Democratic Mayor London Breed’s office issued a statement in response to the incident.
“All options are on the table, including strategic placement of public safety cameras, changes to streets and other physical environments, and of course increased enforcement,” she said.
