Gary Cohen didn’t want to be at Citi Field on Tuesday.
The legendary Mets announcer rolled his eyes and expressed his disgust after filming the SNY hit during a rain delay before the Mets vs. Tigers game was ultimately postponed.
It’s fair to assume that Cohen believed the cameras were turned off at the end of the segment.
“When the game starts, we’ll be here. Until then, you guys should snack as much as you can and try to stay nourished,” Cohen said, letting out a few seconds of laughter.
Then, perhaps believing he was no longer on the air, Cohen rolled his eyes in annoyance, stood up and looked at his broadcast partner, Keith Hernandez.
Cohen’s disdain is certainly understandable.
Despite the dire forecast, the Mets and Tigers did not call the game early.
mets Officially announced at X At 6:25 p.m., we were informed that the game had been delayed and that an update would be provided.
Shortly after 9 p.m., the Mets tweeted that the game had been rained out and would be played Thursday at 1:10 p.m.
If the game had been called earlier in the day, announcers, reporters and fans who traveled to Flushing could have avoided being stuck at the park for more than two and a half hours.
But instead, the team waited for a window that never appeared, forcing them to fill in TV time and the world learned Cohen’s true feelings.
Fans appreciated seeing Cohen’s raw emotion.
“The Mets would do that to you…” a fan posted.
“Can you blame the man?” another fan wrote.
“I love you! He’s one of us too.” Additional fans commented.
Unfortunately for Mr. Cohen, another day of severe weather is creeping into the New York area, and Wednesday could be another long wait.
It certainly doesn’t help that broadcasters have watched the Mets lose four straight games since the start of the season, three of which featured a lethargic offense.
Adrian Houser is scheduled to make his season debut on Wednesday against Casey Mize.
