Stefon Diggs’ era in Buffalo is over. On Wednesday, the Bills acquired the four-time Pro Bowl receiver. houston texans, accept a small return. Now people are wondering why he was traded for so little, and we’re starting to find some answers.
For a while, there was obvious friction between the Bills and Diggs. Trade rumors have been swirling for much of the year with claims that Diggs was treating his teammates the wrong way and vice versa. However, things always seemed to go back to normal by the time the season started.
It ended on Wednesday. There are now reports that the major incident that led to Diggs’ resignation was not one, but death from thousands of cuts. After years of hurt, the relationship gradually frayed until the rope was finally cut. Tim Graham of The Athletic alluded to just this in a series of tweets.
This is consistent with everything the Diggs relationship seems to have turned out to be. He was an important player on paper, but the Bills couldn’t get over the hump with just the Josh Allen/Stefon Diggs pairing. Considering receivers’ daily misfortunes, coupled with the salary cap savings in 2025, it makes a lot of sense for the team’s future.
It will be interesting to see how Diggs does in Houston. On the one hand, he’s a tremendous talent on the field and gives the Texans another big weapon in C.J. Stroud, but on the other hand, he could bring drama to their locker room.
This drama is absolutely worth the risk, especially considering how little the Texans needed to send to sign Diggs. The Bills are also in dire need of a new receiver ahead of the NFL Draft.
