Obama’s 2012 presidential campaign manager Jim Messina said Wednesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that Republicans are pushing former President Donald Trump and Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen to allocate the election to state legislatures. He said he would “change the rules” during the election. The Electoral College votes on a winner-take-all basis.
Co-host Jonathan Lemire said, “If things change, and we don’t know if they will, then state legislatures will look into it, but if that changes, that’s the best path to victory for Biden. He wins Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Michigan, then loses other battleground states and can’t beat No. 269 Nebraska anymore.”
Messina said, “This is what the modern Republican Party is like. They’re now trying to change the rules midstream for their own benefit. This is the hell that Donald Trump has caused.”
He added: “Changing the rules 200 days before the election in the middle of this is ridiculous. I think you’re right. I think there’s a real simulation problem when you look at the map. 1 of the electors. It’s that the vote really matters in combination with other things. Then you need another state. The easiest path to victory has always been a combination of three Midwestern states and Nebraska. .”
Messina added: Any attempt to change the rules here will cause a nationwide outcry. ”
