Founded by Dr. Phil McGraw merit street mediahis new cable network at a time when the television landscape is fragmented and difficult to find its footing.
But Mr. McGraw, 73, was best known as the host of “Dr. Martin.” He aired Trinity for 21 seasons and said he was confident the new network, in partnership with Broadcasting Network, would resonate with viewers.
“This is something I wanted to do in terms of being able to be part of the news cycle,” McGraw told the Post. “I’m not trying to be a news anchor or anything, but I wanted to have a news department where I could give people information about the news without getting too twisted.
“If you turn on Fox News, you hear all of it, and if you turn on CNN, you hear the other side of it. But it’s hard to lose weight straight, so we tell people what happened and whether it’s good news or bad news.” I think I’ll try to let them decide whether it’s news or not.
“We want this to be a family-friendly network, a destination network that you can turn on in the morning and leave it alone and not have to worry about what your kids will see during the day.” he stated.
“We’re not a religious network, and we don’t try to impose our values on anyone. But I think we align with our family values.”
The 24/7 network’s lineup features the newsy morning show “Morning on Merritt Street” (8 p.m. to 10 p.m.), and the primetime lineup features “Nancy Grace’s Crime Story” (6 p.m. to 7 p.m.), anchored by “The News on Merritt.” Street’ (7-8 p.m.) and McGraw’s new show, “Dr. Phil Primetime” (8 p.m.-9 p.m.), will feature “Dr. Phil.”
“We want to talk about things that are important to our viewers,” McGraw said. “I care about those things, and they need to tell me what it is — whether they’re a mother, a father, a husband, a wife, whatever. I really care about those issues. and we were doing really well [over the years] It’s about listening and paying attention to what people are saying. ”
Merit Street Media also features reruns of Steve Harvey’s NBC daytime talk show “Steve.” McGraw and Harvey appear together on the show, which hosts a retreat in Georgia for young people who grew up without fathers.
A new morning show helmed by former “Bachelor” host Chris Harrison and his wife, Lauren Zima, is in the program’s sights. (Harrison is also working on a prime-time dating show.) “I don’t know if you’ve ever met them on a YouTube show, but they’re really good at interrogation and body language and things like that,” he said. “They have worked with people from all walks of life, including homeland security, military law enforcement, and more.
“They’re good at getting to the truth and they’re really good at what they do.”
McGraw emphasized that the network’s programming will address current events with himself and his brand at the forefront.
“Someone said, “You talk a lot about political issues.” And I said, “No, politicians talk a lot about cultural issues.” Ta. “I think my brand has been common sense throughout the ages…I think we’re in a time right now where there’s a lot of agendas being pushed in this country that are trying to hijack the American narrative.
“I think we need some solid, pragmatic common sense in this country,” he said. “I don’t think science, history, biology, economics can be completely rewritten just because it’s not what you want.
“A lot of our universities are cultivating something like that, I don’t know if you’d call it a socialist mentality, but we used to talk about toxic masculinity. Now, They talk about masculinity being toxic, and that doesn’t make sense to me.
“And I think somebody needs to stand up and talk about it.”
