According to the Miami-Dade Police Department, around 3:30 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to a report of an altercation at the Martini Bar in the CityPlace Center in Doral. Police said the suspect was found by security personnel who tried to stop the incident.

The suspect then opened fire, killing the security guard, and a arriving police officer killed him, authorities said.

Another officer was shot in the lower leg during the shootout, and six other people, five men and one woman, were injured, Miami-Dade Police Detective Alvaro Zabaleta said.

Additionally, two of the victims were transported to a trauma center in critical condition, while the remaining four victims were reported to be stable.

“Officers working at the business at the time responded immediately and there was an exchange of gunfire,” Zabaleta said at a news conference.

“Unfortunately, a security guard lost his life in the line of duty. Of course, our condolences go out to his family.”

“At this time, we know that two Doral Police Department officers actually fired their weapons, but as I said, only one was injured by the gunfire,” Zabaleta said.

“The Florida Department of Law Enforcement continues to interact with all witnesses here to ensure we gather all details.”

The injured officer was able to apply a tourniquet on himself during the shooting and was later released from the hospital, police said. CBS News.

Investigators are still looking into the cause of the altercation.
