San Francisco 49ers punter Mitch Wishnowski attended the Giants’ opening day celebration at Oracle Park.
While it is customary for a special guest to throw out the first pitch at Major League Baseball games, Mishnowski opted for something he always does at NFL games: a football punt. Mishnowski then hit his ceremonial “first punt” over the stadium’s outfield wall and into McCovey Cove.
A soccer ball was quickly recovered by a kayaker after it splashed into a popular area of San Francisco Bay.

Wisznovski’s teammates, All-Pro receiver Deebo Samuel and linebacker Fred Warner, also participated in the pregame ceremony. Samuel and Warner simultaneously threw the traditional first pitch to home plate.
A strange snowstorm fell during the Pirates’ home opener against the Orioles at PNC Park.
Wisznovski won the Ray Guy Award after an outstanding 2019 season with Utah. This award is presented annually to the best punter in college football.
Wisznovski completed five punts for a total of 254 yards in Super Bowl V. In the end, the Chiefs defeated the Niners in overtime, clinching Kansas City’s second straight championship.

Pitcher Jordan Hicks allowed five hits and one run in seven innings. Giants infielder Tyro Estrado hit an RBI double in the ninth inning to lead the Giants to a walk-off victory over the San Diego Padres on Friday.

Wisznovski averaged 45.7 yards per punt in 288 career games. He was selected in the fifth round of the 2019 draft.
