Just before noon Friday, deputies were called to investigate an unoccupied vehicle in an area about 63 miles southwest of Kansas City, Kansas.
The actor’s body was found in an adjacent wooded area, according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.
Additionally, authorities announced they are investigating the 27-year-old’s death.
Johnson County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Mackenzie Davis said, “Our office continues to investigate this incident and will update as more information becomes available.”
According to authorities, officers received a call last Sunday morning about a woman screaming for help at an apartment in Lawrence. The actor reportedly drove away from the scene and was believed to have headed toward Highway 59 before police arrived. He was reportedly driving a white Ford Explorer SUV.
The actor was known for his work on the Yellowstone spin-off 1923.
His uncle, Moses Bullins Plenty, distributed missing person fliers in the search for his nephew. In an Instagram post, he questioned why his nephew was “on the run” and insisted he would never commit domestic violence.
Lawrence police also announced Thursday that they have been in touch with family members and are investigating leads to find the actor.
In addition, police filed an affidavit supporting an arrest warrant for the 27-year-old, but it was held and he would not be released unless he was formally charged, according to the local district attorney’s office.
Cole Brings Plenty’s father, Joe Brings Plenty, confirmed his son’s death in a statement and thanked those who helped with the search.
“I would also like to thank everyone who walked with me as we searched for my son and provided the resources we needed to expand the search area,” he said. “This week I learned how many people knew Cole’s good heart and loved him.”
He added that the family will explore “how to move forward.”
The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is appealing for information as the investigation continues. You can contact us by phone at 913-782-0720.
