Colorado’s Deion Sanders issues stern warning after learning of players’ lackadaisical approach to academics

Led by Deion Sanders, the Colorado Buffaloes took the college football world by storm last season. Although the Buffaloes had a disappointing season, they have added several notable players to their roster over the past few months and will enter the 2024 season with high expectations.

While Sanders works to ensure his team is fully prepared for the upcoming football season, he also wants to ensure his players can focus on excelling in the classroom.

Sanders recently received a sharply worded letter from a University of Colorado professor that detailed some players’ lack of “personal responsibility” to academics.

Welloff Media shared a YouTube video showing Sanders reading the letter he received from his professor. Sanders’ son, Deion Sanders Jr., manages content for Welloff Media.

Deion Sanders admits he’s ‘not cut out’ to be an NFL coach, says money is all about ‘love and passion’ for football

“This semester has been a very challenging time for me as a professor,” Sanders said as he read the letter aloud in a team meeting-like atmosphere. “In my 10 years of teaching, I have never felt so disrespected. My lessons are very slow because the students don’t obey in the slightest. He has made it clear that he does not want to be there, and there is little personal responsibility.”

The two-time Super Bowl champion then began emphasizing the importance of classroom behavior.

“You’re present, but you’re not actually there,” Sanders said. “We’re in the field, but that doesn’t mean we’re not doing anything. We’re lovers, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have love. We’re in the mall, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have money. We have a lot of ability, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have love. No. You don’t have any talent because you don’t think.”

Next, Sanders mentioned each player’s “performance” in the NFL Draft. Then someone, presumably a member of the University of Colorado’s staff, suggested that some players on the team were completely lacking in performance.

“We’re going to get something out of this,” Sanders told his team. “You’re either going to be a man, or you’re going to be a great football player. If you choose not to be a great football player, we have to make you a man.”

Sanders seemed forced to remind some players of the reality that many of them won’t make it to the NFL.

“I’m a little frustrated. I’m a little angry right now because … we have young players who are giving their all in one aspect of the game,” Saunders added.

“Ninety or 95 percent of our roster will never make it to the pros. So, coaches, we’ve got to focus on education. We’ve got to focus on life. If things don’t go well in the game. , you have to focus on the next step, the next promotion.”

This fall, the University of Colorado will play its first season as a member of the Big 12 after the school left the Pac-12 Conference. The Buffaloes finished 4-8 last season, but star QB Shedule Sanders will return for his senior season.
