Lawmakers took to social media to commemorate South Carolina’s victory over Iowa State in the NCAA women’s basketball championship game on Sunday.
The South Carolina Gamecocks ended their season undefeated with an 87-75 victory over Iowa basketball sensation Caitlin Clark on Sunday. The women’s championship game had attracted national attention due to South Carolina’s undefeated season and the rise of Clark, who this year broke the 54-year-old record to become NCAA basketball’s all-time leading scorer.
South Carolina lawmakers and officials celebrated the victory on social media Sunday.

Congressman James Clyburn (DS.C.) victory said South Carolina Sens. Ralph Norman (R), Joe Wilson (R) and Russell Frey (R) called it a “well-deserved victory for a remarkable undefeated season.” Each offered congratulations to them An undefeated team with a statement regarding X.
South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster (R) said the University of South Carolina flag would be flown at the state Capitol to commemorate the victory.

Sunday’s win marked South Carolina’s third national championship title, following in 2017 and 2022. South Carolina became the first women’s team to finish an undefeated season since UW in 2016.
President Biden also congratulates the team in a statement.
