PHILADELPHIA — Cody Rhodes finally Finished the story.
It took two full years in WWE and two shots against Roman Reigns, but “The American Nightmare” nailed “The Tribal Chief” to win the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship and his historic title as World Champion. This marked the end of his 1,316-day reign. The second main event of WrestleMania 40 takes place Sunday night at Lincoln Financial Field.
Rose enlisted the help of Jimmy Uso, Seth Rollins, and WWE legends The Undertaker and John Cena to ultimately stop The Bloodline.
Rose used the Triple Cross Rose to finally pin Reigns.
The fourth longest reign in WWE history, which began during the pandemic era in August 2020, came to an end.
Only Bruno Sammartino, Bob Backlund and Hulk Hogan have been world champions longer.
WWE had an Avengers-like ending with babyfaces past and present coming to his defense in an anything-goes Bloodline Rules match.
Jey Uso was the answer when his brother Jimmy broke up Rose and went for the Triple Cross Rose for the first time.
As Rose went for a second time, Solo Chicoa came out from under the ring and hit the challenger with a Samoan Spike. He and Reigns hit a spear/spike combo, but Rose kicked out.
He brought out Cena, who lost to Sicoah at WrestleMania last year.
The Rock’s music hits after Cena hits the Attitude Adjustment on Reigns and Sicoah. After that, he hit rock bottom and Cena was no more.
Rollins’ Shield music hits, but Reigns stops him from hitting Rock with a chair.
Just when it looked like there was no one left, Undertaker’s gong was heard. The lights went out and he appeared in the ring and chokeslammed Rock.
Reigns then made a callback in which he hit Rollins instead of Rose with a chair as an ode to The Shield disbanding.
That proved to be costly, as Rhodes kicked a charging Reigns, opening the door to finally defeat him.
Afterwards, there was a huge celebration in the ring with Rose, his family, and many of WWE’s babyfaces.
Rose was finally able to hand over the WWE World Championship to her mother, Michelle.
Eventually he called Triple H into the ring and The Boss raised his new champion’s hand.
For Rose, 38, this is the completion of a lifelong dream for both him and his family to finally hold the WWE World Championship that no one else in his family has ever had.
The WWWF Championship was taken from his father, “American Dream” Dusty Rhodes, by defeating “Superstar” Billy Graham by count-out on September 26, 1977 at Madison Square Garden. .
Rose’s victory concludes a more than year-long saga between him, Reigns, and Bloodline after leaving AEW and returning to WWE in 2022.
The night featured a very special entrance, with Cody’s wife Brandi by his side for the first time in WWE, and the challenger wearing a logo-like skull mask to show this year won’t end the same way. It started out differently.

However, it was Rose who had the last laugh by defeating Reigns and the Samoan Bloodline in the main event, officially becoming WWE’s new babyface champion and the leader of the next era in WWE history.
