Prominent Las Vegas attorney, wife killed by another attorney in law firm shooting: report

A gunman opened fire Monday morning inside a law office near the Red Rock Resort, killing a man and a woman before turning the gun on himself, Las Vegas police said.

The victims of the Summerlin law office shooting were Dennis Prince and his wife Ashley Prince, FOX5 reported.

Joe Huston, a Las Vegas attorney, has been identified as the gunman, who allegedly shot Dennis and Ashley before turning the gun on himself. Dennis Prince’s family also confirmed his death and details of what led up to the shooting, FOX5 reported.

However, the Clark County Coroner’s Office has not yet identified the victim.

The shooting occurred during a child custody deposition at Prince Law Group at Charleston Boulevard and Pavilion Center Drive, attorney Robert Egret told FOX5.

Houston is reportedly representing her son Dylan Houston in a lawsuit with her ex-stepdaughter Ashley Prince, who is represented by her new husband Dennis Prince, according to reports. Dennis and Ashley have welcomed a baby, FOX5 reports.

Monday’s lawsuit is believed to have included depositions related to the former couple’s ongoing custody battle.

At a news conference, police shared an update on the shooting that occurred just after 10 a.m. on the fifth floor of a law office near Pavilion Center Drive and Charleston Boulevard.

“They arrived within minutes,” said Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sheriff Kevin McMahill. “First responders entered the scene without hesitation and went to work.”

McMahill said the motive for the shooting is still under investigation, but he has a theory.

“We have a theory, but we cannot release any further information at this time. All we know at this time is that a man and a woman have died,” McMahill said.

Police also reiterated that the gunman was not killed by police, but rather took his own life.

Police previously called the shooting a “dynamic event.”

Schools in the area were on a short-term soft lockdown, but the lockdown has since been lifted, FOX 5 News reported.

Police said there is “no ongoing threat” to the community and that they are currently in the early stages of the investigation and will provide further information as it becomes available.
