Best long-shot bets at Augusta

It’s usually the big names that win masters.

Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler, Hideki Matsuyama, Dustin Johnson and Tiger Woods have won the last five Green Jackets, and it’s been a while since we’ve seen a true shock winner at Augusta.

Danny Willett was certainly a surprise in 2016, but by the first round the bet had dropped to 66/1 and he qualified when Patrick Reed won the green jacket in 2011.

That was a long time ago, but it was part of a period that saw dark horses win regularly at Augusta.

Zach Johnson, Trevor Immelman, and Angel Cabrera won in 2007, 2008, and 2009, respectively, at odds of over 100/1.

It would be truly amazing if a triple-digit longshot could turn this field around, but Augusta National is where magical things happen, and this was the year of the longshot. golfwhy not throw some darts this week?

Best longshot bets at the Masters

Im Sung Jae (125/1, Caesars)

This year has been a trying year for Sungjae Im, and his 10-over performance at the Valspar Championship at the end of March seemed to be the rock bottom moment for the 26-year-old Im.

It’s never fun to back a player of this type, but when you’re acquiring a player with Im’s ceiling at this price, the formula changes a bit.

And it definitely becomes more flavorful considering Im’s history at Augusta National.

The Korean has competed in the Masters four times and has already finished runner-up, eighth and 16th.

Maybe this is the place where Sung-jae can recover.

Sergio Garcia (150/1, FanDuel)

On the business end of each Masters, there are always one or two surprising names at the top of the leaderboard, and I wouldn’t be shocked if Sergio Garcia checks that box this year.

The Spaniard was runner-up at LIV Miami last week and has won at Augusta before, so it doesn’t take much effort to find the logic of a punt on Garcia at this price.

Nick Taylor (250/1, FanDuel)

Most people want to back a player with a lot of experience at Augusta National, but Nick Taylor might be an exception at this price.

The Winnipeg native is a four-time winner on the PGA Tour and has shown a natural ability to remain calm in big moments.

This was Taylor’s second time hoisting the trophy after the playoffs, having won at Waste Management (another Monster Field tournament) in February with a triple-digit long shot.

That bodes well in a tournament that can often be tense at big moments.
