Missouri death row inmate eats last meal

A Missouri death row inmate was executed Tuesday night after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected two appeals from his 2006 double murder.

Missouri Department of Corrections Public Affairs Director Karen Pojman told Fox News Digital that Brian Dorsey, 52, died at Bon Terre State Prison after a single injection of the sedative pentobarbital at 6:11 p.m. This has been confirmed, he said in an email.

While the drug was being injected, he took several deep breaths, then several shallow, rapid breaths. At one point, he lifted his head from his pillow and blinked furiously. After a few seconds, all movement stopped. The spiritual advisor sitting next to the stretcher continued speaking. It was unclear what he was saying – the room was soundproof.

Dorsey was served his customary final meal at 11 a.m., which consisted of two cheeseburgers, two chicken strips, two large fries, sausage, pepperoni, onions and mushrooms, according to the Missouri Department of Corrections. , which reportedly consisted of a pizza with extra cheese. Two days before Christmas in 2006, Dorsey murdered his cousin and his wife inside their central Missouri home, leaving their 4-year-old daughter alone at home. He was scheduled to die at Bonne Terre State Prison at 6 p.m. with a single injection of the sedative pentobarbital.

Dorsey was convicted of murdering Sarah and Ben Bonney on December 23, 2006, at their home near New Bloomfield. Earlier in the day, Dorsey called Sarah Bonney to borrow money to pay two drug dealers who were in the apartment, prosecutors said.

That night, Dorsey went to Bonnie’s house. After Dorsey went to bed, he took a shotgun from the garage and killed them, prosecutors said, before sexually assaulting Sarah Bonney’s body. Police said Dorsey stole several items from his home and tried to pay off drug debts with some of the stolen items.

The day after the murder, Sarah Bonney’s parents went to check on her because she hadn’t shown up to a family gathering. They found the couple’s 4-year-old daughter watching television on the couch. She told her grandparents that her mother “wouldn’t wake up.”

Dorsey surrendered to police three days after the murder.

According to one of his lawyers, he has “spent every day of the past 18 years trying to atone for a single act of violence” committed in 2006.

“Brian Dorsey’s execution was a senseless act of brutality and an exercise of state power with no legitimate punitive purpose,” Kirk Henderson said in a statement.
