A huge fireball lit up the skies across New Jersey early Wednesday morning, in what has been a strange week of earthquakes, solar eclipses and other natural events in the Garden State and surrounding areas.
The meteorite that appears to have fallen to Earth produced a bright streak of light, and residents of several New Jersey towns and parts of Connecticut, New York and Pennsylvania reported the sight. To the American Meteor Society.

The AMS website, where people can self-report their experiences, indicates there were numerous sighting reports from residents in the area during the same period.
A man named Darren T. said he saw the light in Hackettstown, Warren County, about 80 miles west of New York City.
“This was the first time I had seen this in my area,” he wrote in his report. “I’ve seen shooting stars before, but this was the first time I’d observed this.”
Christina V., of Linden, New Jersey, said she came out of the shower around 3:40 a.m. and was surprised to see what she saw in the sky.
“I saw a bright green color, almost neon, falling from the sky. There was no long path or anything, but it fell and disappeared,” she wrote. I was looking through the window, which may have affected my vision, but I was just left there dumbfounded. I quickly told my boyfriend what I saw and immediately went online to see if it was normal. ”
Dawn B. of Mount Kisco in Westchester County, New York, called it “incredible.”
“It’s kind of surreal,” she said.
