Ben McLemore arraigned on first-degree rape, other sex crimes

Former NBA lottery pick Ben McLemore was indicted on Wednesday in Clackamas County Circuit Court in Oregon on four sex charges.

Among the charges he faces are first-degree rape and first-degree unlawful sexual penetration, both Level A felonies with a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

The other two charges, the highest-level felonies punishable by up to five years in prison, are two counts of second-degree sexual abuse.

He is scheduled to return to court July 1 at 10 a.m.

McLemore was arrested by U.S. Marshals on an outstanding felony warrant related to the charges at Portland International Airport on Tuesday after landing around noon local time.

The sexual assault allegations stem from an incident that occurred on October 3, 2021 in Lake Oswego. According to a police news release.

The victim reported that the alleged assault occurred at a home in the 1200 block of Cherry Lane in Lake Oswego.

McLemore was a member of the Trail Blazers at the time of the alleged assault.

“Mr. McLemore moved out of state during the investigation and frequently traveled internationally for work, which delayed the investigation while detectives continued to collect evidence,” police said in a statement.

After hearing testimony from the victims and presenting evidence in the case, a grand jury handed down an indictment in February, and an arrest warrant was issued.

“We commend the courage of the survivors who have come forward and overcome this difficult process, and we will continue to support them in any way we can,” police said in a statement.
